Bianca Mills

Head of Research & Development, Royal Cornwall Hospitals NHS Trust

Bianca Mills is the Head of Research & Development (R&D) at the Royal Cornwall Hospitals NHS Trust (RCHT), where she leads the strategic development and delivery of acute research across Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly. With a strong focus on innovation, collaboration, and system-wide integration, Bianca oversees the governance, sponsorship, and performance of RCHT’s research portfolio—supporting both NHS and academic partnerships to advance patient-centred research.

Under her leadership, the R&D Directorate plays a pivotal role in strengthening Cornwall’s position as a research-active region, with initiatives spanning the NIHR Commercial Research Delivery Centre (CRDC) for Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly, cross-sector collaborations through the Cornwall One Research (CORe) Group, and the development of infrastructure projects such as the national pilot of the Mobile Research Unit (MRU).

Bianca is committed to fostering a culture of research excellence across all specialties, enhancing opportunities for clinicians, and embedding research into everyday clinical practice to improve patient outcomes and innovation across the health and care system.
