Christine Burt
Director of Research and Innovation, Birmingham Community Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust
My name is Dr Christine Burt I am a former university researcher from the University of Birmingham and also Aston University. I started as an Immunologist then completed my PhD in the Liver Unit at the QE Hospital and worked for a very short time in Cancer Studies as a post doctoral researcher.
I moved to Birmingham Community Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust about 13 years ago and am now the Director for Research and Innovation with >5000 staff predominantly nurses and therapists in the organisation.
I also lead CHART the Community Healthcare Alliance of Research Trusts . This collaboration empowers researchers from wider care settings to share best practice, learn from each other and collaboration and influence change in wider care settings
I am passionate about people and their communities and developed an initiative called ‘Community Connexions’ which has been running for just over 3 years. We work closely with voluntary, community, faith and social enterprise groups especially in underserved communities to address health inequalities, offer healthcare promotion and research. We learn so much from listening and building relationships I find this part of my work extremely rewarding. My parents are from Jamaica and I was born in Birmingham, I am always keen to listen and interact with diverse communities to understand their healthcare challenges and barriers to see if we can come up with co-created solutions together. As a Brummie I am passionate about improving the lives of those who live in this city!
Both CHART and Community Connexions are initiatives I am proud to lead that will enable us to do great research in wider care settings.
