Monika Cien Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust

My current role is Senior Research & Innovation Manager at Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust (MFT). I started my research career at MFT in 2012 where I was appointed to the Senior Ophthalmic Research Practitioner role. During this time, I actively supported delivery of research projects across Adult and Paediatric Ophthalmology portfolio. In 2016 I moved to the Clinical Trials Manager role, where I was managing the Ophthalmology research portfolio for a further three years. During this time, I was also the PI and co-investigator on a few studies, which lead me to designing and conducting my own, multicentre, industry funded study and taking on the Chief Investigator role. In 2019 I progressed into the Research & Innovation Manager position where I was supporting research delivery within the Manchester Royal Eye Hospital, University Dental Hospital of Manchester, Manchester Local Care Organisation, and several other specialities across the trust. During the pandemic I was responsible for delivery of the COVID vaccine studies at MFT.

I am currently the Senior R&I Manager supporting operational and strategic management of research delivery.

When I’m not at work, I can be found in the amateur boxing gym where I am the coach and an England Boxing qualified judge and referee.
